It wasn’t me who…
…flushed Purply (a stuffed toy) down the toilet,
…got hosed down because I hadn’t had a shower for 3 days,
…never washed my teddy bear I’ve had for 15 years and
…was caught teaching my stuffed toy Geography

Enfin, j’ai décidé d’aller me coucher, il était 10 heures 20.

Superheroes
![]()
If anyone had visited BCS on the last Saturday of term two, they would have had the shock of their lives. They wouldn’t have seen what they expected – studious, (cough, cough) well-mannered, (more coughing) children going about their business. No! Instead they would have come across a gathering of superheroes – and some not so superheroes. The Incredibles, the Star Wars gang, Robin Hood and his followers… You name it, BCS had it.
Yes, folks – you’ve guessed it. It was the end-of-term party. Now for you readers who don’t know, at the end of terms two and three, BCS always has a fancy dress party and, if you haven’t already guessed, this term’s theme was “Your Hero”.
A. Connie and U. Jens came as an excellent depiction of the Blues Brothers, while U. Jonno entertained us by kidnapping a bound and gagged A. Kerry. (The captive was then rescued by the heroic ‘Supermen’ Joey and Luke.) Violet and Dash Incredible (aka Susannah and Daniel) made a special appearance, winning the “closest likeness” and “nicest underpants” awards. Many other awards were distributed such as the “Most Paint Used” (awarded to Garam who came as Spongebob Squarepants) and Nicole. aka – Queen Amidala claimed the “Matching Shoes Award”.
And so after much laughter, too many photos taken and a spur of the moment, en masse performance of ‘YMCA’, the party drew to an end and the BCS population returned to its “normal” way of life.

Colours
Red is…
A round apple
A lot of blood
The sunset
A shiny fish
Blue is…
The spring flowers
The sound of a waterfall
The clouds in the sky
The falling snow
Green is…
The grass in a field
The stem of a flower
A green needle in a pillow
A picture of a farm
Purple is…
The summer fruit hanging from a tree
A purple picnic basket
A butterfly’s wings, vimto
Orange is…
A soft jumper
The orange sunset
The tiger’s stripes
A juicy orange

Memories of BCS
You’d think that BCS, being a school
Would focus on lessons and learning and rules
But to those who visit, it soon becomes clear
That there’s so much more to what happens here.
As students and staff leave BCS
What are the things they remember best?
If you ask them, then perhaps you’ll find
That some of these memories spring to mind…
Making friends from different nations,
Various insect infestations,
Carry-out tea on Friday nights,
Late night games and water fights,
Riding bikes at morning break,
The day that someone saw a snake,
Playing football at every chance,
Being taught to ballroom dance,
Watching movies in the dorms,
Huge African thunderstorms,
Mad hairstyles on Crazy Hair Day,
Being involved in the Christmas play,
Running around in the year’s first rain,
Playing ‘Fresh’ on the field again,
Visiting our neighbours in Kiniabour,
Mis-matched outfits that we wore,
Cakes to celebrate every birthday,
With raucous singing and hip-hooray,
Bissap ice after Friday sports
And past 5:30 – wearing shorts!
Buying sweets from the tuck shop,
Doing jobs like ‘jams’ and ‘wash-up’,
Enjoying performances on Skit Nights,
Trying to avoid mosquito bites,
Taking the minibus on school trips,
Cheering for BCS at SIPS,
Quiet times and Sunday praise,
Leaving for the holidays…
With all this and more, you may well think
That we’ve no time left to learn anything.
It’s not that no work is ever done…
Just that what we’ll remember is having fun!

- Let’s start off with a bang, shall we? Blonde hair, blue eyes, quite tall. What else is there? Oh yeah, and a round head! Quite indecisive involving the choosing of idea and projects, usually wants her way. Nasty towards us boys, and takes advantage of us quite often. Very bright at most subjects and gets very good marks on tests. Not much else to say. Except the ultimate fact (if you already don’t know) that she is a girl!
- Moses
- Typical year 8 boy? Not! Dark skin, brown eyes, short hair, white teeth, square head, nice biceps (and triceps). Yeah, that’s about it. Very talented in the arts of convincing people and quite bright at PE and Art. Very good sense of humour and a quick eye for anyone’s weak points. Hilarious squeals of laughter and a soft spot for stuffed animals.
- Jonny
- Well, it explains itself. Not much else to say.
- Paul
- Nice, short, funny person with a great beaver impression and also a good sense of humour. Curly, black hair and freckles. Always brings the good and bad points out of anything. Takes homework not too lightly, but always finishes on time. Great personality, he is ultimate role model (cough, cough). Oh yeah, and his speciality is making our whole room want to gang up on him.
- Daniel
- Very good boy at least. His very outgoing character deceives many. Blonde hair, bluish-greenish eyes, nice bright. Once again, he has ways to make people laugh (like all year 8 boys), and loves football with all his feet. Strong minded, yet very kind at times. He might kick you off his bed, or give you a Pringle. Bottom line is, he’s great to have around, adds spice to life.
